Kern County's Detention Deputies salute the good work the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault provides to victims. In 2009, the Alliance provided a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, crisis intervention, community prevention, education, and counseling services to over 17,500 women, children and men in Kern County. Detention Deputies are sworn peace officers that receive extensive jail specific training certified by the State of California.		The use of Detention Deputies in local jail facilities saves the County and taxpayers millions of dollars every year by providing services at a 30% cost savings as compared to Sheriff's Deputies*. That savings allows the Sheriff to place additional Deputy Sheriff's out on patrol of local neighborhoods where their training is best utilized. Implemented in the early 1990's as a cost saving measure, Detention Deputies have staffed Kern County's jails for nearly 2 decades, keeping local neighborhoods safe by keeping criminals locked up. Detention Deputies oversee a jail population of 2500 inmates.
